Derbi motorcycles move from Spain to Italy

Derbi - old Spanish brand motorcycles, leading its history to 1922, acquired by Piaggio Group of companies in 2001, forced to shut down production in Spain. This brand has managed priuspet motorcycles in the 50's of the 20th century, having won several titles in racing GP. However, the current realities of the brand look very grim. Even in 2011, Piaggio Group announced its intention to close the plant in Italy and exposed the production for sale. However Derbi sale transaction did not take place.

Now Spain is in a financial crisis, with the unemployment rate of about 25% of the working population. This economic downturn, and in consequence and reduced purchasing power, led to the closure of the factory Derbi in Barcelona and the dissolution of about 150 employees of the plant.
